KARACHI, Aug 1: The monitoring committee of the People’s Party Parliamentarians on Monday listed some more alleged excesses against Awam Dost Panel candidates and supporters in various parts of the province. It expressed concern over inability of the Election Commission to get its writ acknowledged.
According to its report, implication in false cases of ADP candidates, who were resisting the alleged government pressure to change their loyalties, continued in Khairpur. It alleged that an ADP candidate for the seat of naib nazim of the Luqman union council, Mr Rehan, was being pressured for several days to withdraw from the contest. On Monday morning, he was visited at his shop by a person who alleged that he had given him a counterfeit Rs500 currency note. Mr Rehan said he had not given him the fake currency note and pointed out that he had arrived at the shop only a few minutes ago. However, the monitoring committee said, a police party that followed on the heels arrested Mr Rehan.
The PPP said that in Jamshoro, the DPO claimed at a press conference that he had raided the house of Malik Asad and arrested Khuda Bux and Ghulam. The monitoring team said it was a lie as no raids had been conducted on the house of Mr Asad. It said Mr Bux and Mr Ghulam, who were the proposer and the seconder of an ADP candidate for the seat of nazim of Thano Ahmad Khan, had been arrested in the court premises when the candidates had arrived there for scrutiny of their papers.
It alleged that Roshan Buriro, a convicted worker of the Jeay Sindh and a candidate for the seat of nazim of the Bhan Saeedabad union council, along with ASI Bakhar Rodnani and Saleh Shah, kidnapped an ADP candidate for the nazim’s seat, Mohammad Siddiq Memon, in Jamshoro on Monday evening.
Condemning the kidnapping, PPP MPA Syed Murad Ali Shah said Roshan Buriro was a convict and also an absconder in an anti-state case. He said Mohammad Siddiq had filed objections over his nomination, citing his conviction and absconder status.
A written complaint was filed with the district returning officer and the DPO.
In Tando Mohammad Khan, the PPP said, false revenue bills were allegedly being prepared against ADP candidates to disqualify them. It said the irony was that the bills were being issued to the candidates after acceptance of their nomination papers. In union council-1, false revenue bills were allegedly prepared against an ADP candidate for the seat of nazim, Ejaz Shafi, whose papers had been accepted earlier. But, the monitoring committee said, the nomination papers were later rejected on this pretext. Similar was the case of Ghulam Rasool Nizamani, an ADP for the seat of nazim of the Saindad union council. In Bulri Shah Karim, the returning officer refused to accept an objection on the ground of freshly-fabricated revenue bills against an ADP candidate for the seat of nazim, Shahbaz Shah. The returning officer also rejected an objection on the ground of revenue bills against Jabbar Memon and Ali Raza Shah, ADP candidates for seats of nazim and naib nazim of Mullah Kathiar.
In Larkana, the PPP committee said, an ADP candidate for the seat of naib nazim, Riaz Mirani, was picked up from his home by plain clothed police officials claiming to belong to the Karachi police.
