Case against 18 aspirants for code violation
GUJRANWALA, July 30: At least 18 aspirants of Naushera Virkan tehsil for nazim, naib nazim, women and general councillors’ seats were booked for violation of code of conduct here on Saturday. According to reports, these aspirants had set up their election offices at open places and were also involved in displaying banners and posters and in walking chalking. On receiving information, the police found the complaints correct and registered cases against violators.
It may be mentioned that the chief election commissioner had imposed a ban on wall chalking and displaying banners during the election campaign for the local body elections. However, no arrest was made till the filing of this report.
KIDNAPPED: A private bank manager was kidnapped and set free, but his car was taken away by armed men here on Saturday.
Reports said that manager Asif Bashir was on his way home by his car when armed men intercepted him on the GT Road and took away him to some unknown place. Later, the accused threw the manager out of the vehicle near Kherianwala, Faisalabad, and took away his car. He contacted his family in Gujranwala by phone who brought him back from there. On receiving information, police set up pickets on all roads leading to the city, but failed to find any clue to the accused.
Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.
CASES: Six prayer leaders of Kamoki and Aimanabad were booked on charges of delivering provocative speeches and using loudspeakers on Saturday.
