DIG escapes attempt on life

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 27: Police have initiated a probe to determine if there was any link between a man arrested for an abortive murderous attack on a DIG rank officer here on Wednesday with any militant or sectarian organization.

A senior police officer said that Bashir Khan entered the room of the DIG Investigation, Manzoor Mughal, and gave him an application requesting to expedite investigation into his case. As the DIG started reading the application, Bashir opened fire with his pistol. Mr Mughal narrowly escaped the bullet and managed to overpower the assailant.

A case has been registered against the assailant under sections 452/353/506-B/324 of the PPC and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
