RALEIGH (North Carolina), July 21: George Bastl sprang the biggest upset of the Indianapolis Championship when the Swiss veteran battled to a 6-4 6-7 6-4 second round victory over third seed Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia on Wednesday. The win was the 30-year-old Bastl’s first over the Davis Cup player in three career meetings and his reward is a third round encounter against 16th seeded American Mardy Fish.

Fish advanced with a hard-fought 6-4 4-6 6-4 win over promising British teenager Andrew Murray.

The tournament’s second and fourth seeds did not meet the same fate as Hrbaty and easily advanced to the round of 16.

Second ranked Nicolas Kiefer of Germany turned back France’s Antony Dupuis 7-5 6-4, while the fourth seeded American Taylor Dent stopped compatriot Jan-Michael Gambill 6-3 6-4.

Kiefer lost the 2004 final to top-seeded Andy Roddick and they could meet again on Sunday.

Okun eased to a 6-2 6-4 victory over Xavier Malisse of Belgium to advance.
