PESHAWAR, July 16: The NWFP government is launching a discreet and cost-effective publicity campaign in print and electronic media for vast projection of the government’s mega education project “Literacy for All”. An initial allocation of Rs1 billion has been made to achieve the objectives of the project — to ensure maximum enrolment of illiterate persons in the literacy centres established in every nook and corner of the province.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting here on Saturday with NWFP chief secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi in the chair.

The meeting expressed satisfaction over public response of the first phase of the programme, said an official handout.

The meeting was informed that about 100,000 persons had sought admission to more than 4,500 literacy centres established in various parts of the province under the first phase of the programme. It was hoped that the number would double in the second phase to be launched in November.

The encouraging sign of the programme was the ratio of female enrolment which was somewhere between 60 and 70 per cent, the meeting was told.
