KARACHI: JUP, PPP to field joint candidates

KARACHI, July 8: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have reached an agreement to contest against the Sindh coalition-nominated candidates in the upcoming local bodies election on a one-to-one basis. This agreement came at a meeting between leaders of the two parties — Mohammad Siddiq Rathor, Shabbir Abu Talib, Abdul Razzaq Sangani and Wazir Rehbar of the JUP; and Rashid Rabbani, Rafiq Engineer and Raheel Iqbal of the PPP — here on Thursday.

The two sides also agreed to formulate a joint strategy for promoting peace and stability in Karachi. They expressed their commitment to foiling all conspiracies through democratic means and countering terrorism.—PPI
