PESHAWAR, July 7: Five youths who were in a speeding car opened fire on a bus killing two passengers and injuring two others on the Grand Truck Road, near the general bus stand, on Thursday. Police officials said that the five youths were in a car which was being driven at high speed on the GT Road. When the bus driver, who was also driving his vehicle rashly, overtook the car several times it infuriated the youths.

The youths stopped the bus near the general bus stand and had an argument with its driver. They then opened indiscriminate fire killing two passengers, Riaz Gul and Hussain Khan, residents of Sardar Ahmad Jan Colony and Latifabad respectively, while another passenger, Bacha Said, and cleaner of the bus, Mohammad Nawab alias Babu, were injured and they were rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital.

An on-duty police constable arrested one of the attackers, Nazir, a resident of Yakatoot, while his companions managed to escape. The police are on their lookout.

TRAFFIC POLICE: The NWFP traffic police on Thursday launched a campaign against overloaded vehicles and on the first day impounded 13 trucks overloaded with straw in the Matani area, said an official statement.
