3,224 teachers ‘sacked’

Published July 7, 2005

SIALKOT, July 6: Punjab education department has terminated services of 3,224 male and female Learning Coordinators and all the posts would be abolished automatically after July 15. Punjab Teachers Union Information Secretary Abdul Rashid Nagra stated this while talking to journalists at Daska on Wednesday. Mr Nagra said that the posts had been created by the then president Ziaul Haq to provide promotion opportunities to the PTC teachers after a PTU strike in 1983 and the senior teachers had been appointed as LCs.

He said the termination of LCs and abolishment of the posts had created unrest among the PTC teachers, as they had been deprived of their right to departmental promotion on district seniority basis.
