Protest

By Our Correspondent

SHEIKHUPURA, July 6: Scores of heirs of Javed, a resident of Ferozewala who died of bronchitis in the DHQ hospital the other day, protested on Wednesday against police on the charge of torturing the boy to death. The deceased’s father, Sardar Ali, and mother, Sarwar Bibi, accused the police of torturing their son to death. They have demanded an inquiry into the death. Jail superintendent Majeed Qureshi, however, denied any torture.

Meanwhile, a team of doctors constituted on the order of court, conducted a postmortem.

APP adds: A judicial inquiry has proved that Javed died a natural death on the jail premises after 15 days of confinement.

Sheikhupura DPO Syed Ibn-i-Husain in a press statement here on Wednesday said the Chak-47 Ferozewala police had registered a kidnapping case against Javed. Later, he was sent to the jail where he died owing to some ailment, the other day. A judicial probe revealed that Javed was an asthma patient and his death was natural.

However, the jail superintendent has said in writing that Javed was normal when he was brought to the jail.

Meanwhile, the Punjab IGP has directed the Sheikhupura range DIG to probe the matter.
