Journalists meeting with officials of govt today: G-14 plots issue

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, July 6: A six-member committee of journalists will hold another round of meetings with government representatives on Thursday (today) on the issue of alleged irregularities in the allotment of plots in Sector G-14, says a press release on Wednesday. In a meeting on July 2, the journalists’ committee members had apprised the government team, led by information secretary Shahid Rafi, of their concerns about the alleged irregularities committed by the scrutiny committee in the allotment of plots.

It said the information secretary had committed to cancel the provisional allotment orders of those who did not fulfil the criteria. In the meeting a committee of six journalists was formed to look into the concerns of the journalists.

Internal Publicity Wing Director Ashfaq Gondal and Additional Secretary Ahsan Yousuf later held a meeting with the journalists’ committee members.

The journalists pointed out that the employees of PTV and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), which was given the status of a corporation in 2003, had been accommodated by the government which was a violation of the eligibility criteria.

They pointed out that about 40 applicants, working in newspapers, periodicals and news agencies, had been cleared by the scrutiny committee for the allotment of plots despite the fact that they did not fulfil the criteria.
