SAHIWAL, July 5: As many as five flood relief camps have been set up in the district to meet any emergency in face of rising water level in Ravi river. District Coordination Officer Hamid Amjad Waraich on Tuesday said this while presiding over a meeting of flood relief committee. The meeting was attended by the heads of police, revenue, agriculture, education, civil defence, health, livestock, TMA, highways and building departments etc.

The DCO, who is also the acting district nazim, informed the meeting that the relief camps set up at Noor Shah, Muhammadpur, Harappa, Kassoal and Dad Fatiana were provided wireless sets for making immediate contact with the central control room at the revenue office which would work round the clock to monitor flood and rain situation.

Health department was asked to provide medicines and vaccines for inoculation against epidemics in the low-lying areas, while the livestock department was asked to provide precautionary treatment to cattle in the areas along the river banks.

The DCO told all department heads to remain alert to cope with any emergency.

Meanwhile, water level in the Ravi river has reportedly risen considerably, causing erosion near Miran Shah and Mulla Hamza villages in Noorshah area.

Reports reaching here say that the villages, Karam Baloch, Dad Baloch, Langanwali, Thatha Bahdar Singh, Tibbi Hamid Sahoo, Tibbi Jai Singh, Karial, Thatha Nijabat and Murad Shah, besides Noorshah town, are facing flood threat, which has forced the residents to shift their livestock to safe places.
