Jockey Essa completes magnificent double

KARACHI, July 3: Jockey Muhammad Essa dominated the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday by performing a magnificent double. He proved his credentials when he romped home to victory in the fifth and sixth successive races held in the afternoon. First he delighted spectators when he rode Patricia to victory in the five furlongs race participated by ten horses after Funny Girl and Edging Ahead were scratched. Haseena-e-Arab was beaten to second place.

Essa went on to perform the double through Bang On Target beating Cold Furry by half a length. After having a bad start and trailing at third place, he overtook Cold Furry and Arab Hi Arab in the closing stages to win the race.

Joining Essa in jubilation was owner of the two horses, Syed Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara and trainer Mumtaz Ali.

Bay nine-year old horse Ghori maintained his winning sequence when he won the opening race of the day. Piyari Mehbooba tipped to win was beaten to second place by half length. It may be mentioned that Ghori had triumphed in the last race held on june 26.

Big Daddy surprised the pundits when he posted an amazing victory in the second race beating Royal Wisdom.

Royal Loyality annexed the third race with Fascinate occupying second place in the third race.

The fourth race saw Thanks Naeem emerging as a surprise winner with Sher Garh finishing runners up.

King of Arab, the thorough bred bay colt, clinched the honours when he won last race of the day.

The next race meeting is scheduled for July 10.
