LAHORE, July 3: PML-N MNA Khwaja Saad Rafiq said here on Sunday that the country needed general elections, not local. Talking to reporters, he said a few people wanted to strengthen their grip on the country by holding the local polls.
He said the new constituencies were unnatural, carved out to benefit a few people.
He was critical of the raise in petrol prices on the very first day of the new fiscal year. The step, he said, had rendered the federal budget meaningless.
Saad said the matter should have been discussed in the National Assembly before any increase.
He said the opposition legislators would move adjournment motions against the raise in POL prices.
He said Mian Nawaz Sharif had directed the party to protest against the increase by holding protest camps at various places. A schedule for the purpose would soon be finalized, he said.
He demanded that Dr A.Q.Khan should be produced before the National Assembly so that the lawmakers could see that the architect of the country’s nuclear programme was all right.
