THATTA, July 3: Local and foreign tourists have stopped visiting the historical graveyard of Makli as the contractor has locked the gates of most of the tombs and mausoleums.

These include the tombs of Essa Khan Tarkhan, Mirza Jani Beg and Jam Nizamuddin. The graveyard has a total of 35 tombs and mausoleums of four dynasties.

It may be mentioned that local visitors are being charged Rs10 per head and foreigners Rs200.

Makli necropolis is one of the most significant historical sites in the world and has the potential of becoming a major tourist attraction.

But a lack of facilities is reducing the number of visitors.
