Heatwave in Balochistan continues despite rain

QUETTA, July 3: The vast plains of Balochistan remained hot and dry on Sunday and isolated rains reported from the hilly areas had no impact on the weather pattern, which was termed as abnormal by weather pundits.

According to local meteorological data, a seasonal low continues to persist over Balochistan and adjoining areas, resulting in temperatures above normal by 2-3 degree Celsius in north, northwest and southwest Balochistan.

About 17mm rainfall was recorded in Barkhan, besides heavy rainfall in Harnai and showers in Zhob and Ziarat. Kalat, a hill station, remained cool at 15 degree Celsius.

The weather is likely to remain hot and dry in (former) Nasirabad division while partly cloudy weather with chances of it developing into thunderstorm was the forecast for next 24 hours. —-APP

WATER ISSUES: The federal government has appointed a three-member committee to sort out the issue of water sharing between Sindh and Balochistan, a provincial minister said on Sunday.

Irrigation Minister Moulvi Ataullah Lango said the committee comprises two senior engineers from Wapda and a representative from Irsa.

The committee members will inspect the Garang feeder, hear representatives from both the provinces and then submit a report to the government, the minister said.

Moulvi Ataullah said he expected the issue to be settled amicably because the two provincial governments were consulting each other with the purpose of striking an accord on water sharing.

In an effort to deal with water shortages and to avail a full share of water, the minister said that a project to remodel and expand Kirthar and Pat Feeder canal had been finalized. He said the project would be implemented soon. —APP
