KARACHI, July 3: The University of Karachi in a meeting held on Saturday decided to convene a world Sindhi conference in February 2006 on the varsity campus. The meeting was co-chaired by the varsity Vice-Chancellor, Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Dr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui and Dr Nabi Bux Baloch.
The President or Prime Minister would be requested to inaugurate the ceremony, while the chairman Senate would be the chief guest in its concluding session, said the meeting.
Dr Pirzada said the Sindhi language had a rich literary and cultural history, and tradition, and the conference would be an honour for the varsity.
Dr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui lauded the KU’s decision to host the proposed international moot and hoped it would cast far-reaching positive impacts over the whole province.
Dr Nabi said that joint steps were need on the occasion to promote the Sindhi language, suggesting that special attention should be given to the culture, crafts and fine arts of Sindh.—PPI
