KARACHI: Enforcement of ban on gutka urged

KARACHI, July 2: The Chief Secretary of Sindh, Fazalur Rehman, taking notice of complaints regarding the production and sale of gutka in the city asked the DCO/caretaker of the city government to investigate the matter and submit report within a week to his office. According to a handout, the chief secretary directed to strictly implement government’s orders regarding the sale and production of gutka and to identify those violating the ban.

He issued these directives when his attention was drawn to the matter by an NGO, Tanzeem Samaji Inqilab Pakistan, Gulbahar Karachi.

The NGO expressed its concern on the production and sale of gutka and urged the officials of the police, health and other departments to enforce the ban.

The report of the NGO has identified particulars of the personals responsible for the production and sale of 41 brands of gutkas and told that almost 1,000 brands of gutkas were being sold in the market.—PPI
