8 killed in accident


CHAKWAL, June 27: At least eight passengers were killed and 15 others sustained multiple injuries in a head-on collision between two passenger coaches near Malikwal village on Talagang- Khushab road some 50km from here on Monday evening. According to the police, one of the buses (LHO-5721) was heading for Rawalpindi from Auchalli village while the other one (SDW-4476) was coming from the opposite direction.

The incident took place when one of the buses tried to overtake a Wapda truck parked alongside the road.

As a result, five passengers were killed on the spot while three others died while being taken to Tehsil Headquarters hospital Talagang.

Five of the 15 people who received multiple injuries are in serious condition.

The district administration and a police party headed by DSP Talagang rushed to the incident site and carried out the relief and rescue operation.

They immediately shifted bodies and the injured to the hospital.

The dead were identified as Anwar Bibi, Nadia Rasool, Altaf Hussain, Akhtar Hussain and Saeed Ahmad. Three bodies are yet to be identified.—APP
