NEW DELHI, May 28: Close on the heels of India’s assertions that travel by Hurriyat leaders beyond Azad Jammu and Kashmir is contrary to the understanding reached with Pakistan, a faction of Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has expressed the hope that Central government will not create hurdles in the proposed dialogue with leaders in Pakistan.

“We hope Indian government will continue to extend its support in the continuation of the dialogue process (between Hurriyat leaders and Pakistani leadership) and will not take any step which will create hurdles in the process,” Mirwaiz Umer Farooq told a congregation on Friday at Jamia Masjid in occupied Kashmir.

In a veiled reference to the Centre’s statement, Mirwaiz said: “Any attempt to create problems in the dialogue process would hurt the sentiments and public aspirations in the sub-continent who have attached high hopes to the process of dialogue after decades of confrontation.”

He said a delegation of Hurriyat would be visiting AJK on June 2. “We will be meeting the political leadership of Azad Kashmir, opposition leaders and common Kashmiri brethren to discuss various options to resolve the Kashmir issue.”—AFP
