LAHORE, May 14: Three-year-old colt, Brummell, will be seen in action to make it two in a row when he contests the Midas Cup during the Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday. This son of English sire, Polish Precedent out-of-Fashion, Brummell, is vying in the class I, II and III combined handicap race to be run over 2000 metres.
With two victories under his belt and placed third once in his four outings, Brummell, is a high pedigreed colt in a cast of seven, comprising three imported animals and four Pakistan-bred.
His closest rivals could be two stable-mates, Laser Lass and Tora Bora from the yard of trainer Mubarik Ali donning different colours. This will be the seventh race of the day.
Three progenies of different English sires, namely, Gortalocha, Dixie Queen and Tortuette are the pick of the lot in the main supporting and sixth event, the Mekran Plate, a class IV division I handicap race to be gone over 1400 metres.
Five-year-old mare, Gortalocha, who was beaten in his previous outing, should make amends and win the race. She should be followed by English fillies, Dixie Queen and Tortuette, who at present are not showing performances worth their pedigrees.
Three-year-old colt, Fidel Castro, resumes his campaign to further consolidate his winning streak to make it four in a row in the fifth race, Mekran Plate class IV division II to be run over 1400 metres.
Till to date he holds his impeccable record of a hat trick of victories to further it to four back to back wins. However, his task looks not so easy this time but he is capable to achieve the feat on bloodline being the son of Cry For The Clown out-of-Zahid Princess.
Three-year-old filly, Penalty Corner, owned by former international hockey star, Munir Dar, is a cut above in class vis-à-vis her seventeen rivals in the second race.
The dominance with which the filly won a race in her last outing, there seems no chance of her defeat. Since Munir Dar has a passion for hockey, he prefers to name his horses reflecting his connection with the stick game, such as, Penalty Push, Penalty Stroke and Penalty Corner.
Does Penalty Corner proves worth her owner’s skill in penalty corner conversion, will be seen at the Racecourse on Sunday.
A card of eight events will be seen through in the afternoon, the first race will start at 1pm.
