KARACHI, May. 3: Scores of youths, women and children on Tuesday staged a sit-in near Ali Hotel on Baghdadi’s Shah Latif Bhitai Road to express their indignation over the unavailability of drinking water in their locality.
The sit-in began at around 4pm and continued till evening. No senior KWSB official nor the nazim of Lyari Town visited the protestors to listen to their grievances.
The demonstrators said despite their complaints the water supply position to the locality had worsened for the past weeks, but authorities just seemed to be insensitive to their grievances.
They also complained that several households of the locality had been supplied, off and on, with sewage-mixed water for the past few weeks. Since the type of water was not fit for consumption, they had been forced to use subsoil water to the detriment of their health.
The residents of Fidha Husain Shaika Road, Baghdadi, have complained that they are getting contaminated water for the past two weeks.
The water shortage has been persisting in most parts of Lyari Town, but it has become more acute in Shah Beg Lane and Baghdadi Union Council areas.
The Tuesday’s sit-in blocked vehicular traffic on Shah Latif Bhitai Road, particularly sections of Baghdadi police station and Lyari Technical School.
