KARACHI: Budget committee reviews draft


KARACHI, May 3: The committee of the City District Council and city government for budget proposals met on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the Committee Chairman, Mohammed Siddique Rathore, to consider the city government’s draft budget for 2005-06.

Committee members Raana Khan Advocate, Syed Najmi Alam, Jafarul Hasan, Nazir Ahmed Sajid, Mahfooz-un-Nabi, Hafiz Ahmed Ali, Yunus Sohan, Reehana Afroz, Shamim Mumtaz Wasi and District Officer Budget Mohammed Shoaib attended the meeting.

A number of budget proposals were submitted while the committee chairman suggested that the budget for town and UC nazims should be enhanced from the existing Rs6.4 million to Rs10 million.

Officials of the finance department were directed to give a presentation on the budget at the next meeting, and to inform the committee about estimates and incomes of last year and those in the new budget.

Syed Najmi Alam proposed that in view of the growing cases of hepatitis in the city, its vaccines be supplied to citizens free of cost through the health budget.

Details about the use of the education budget were also sought by the committee members.

Raana Khan suggested that mega projects should be equally shared with all towns and more mega schemes be launched to meet the water shortage besides expediting the completion of the K-3 project.

Shamim Mumtaz Wasi proposed that all budgetary expenditures be presented before the council for approval.

All members were asked to submit their budget proposals by May 11. — APP
