KARACHI: Planning commission calls on CM

KARACHI, May 2: An eight-member team of Planning Commission of Pakistan, led by its Deputy Chairman Dr Mohammed Akram, called on Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim following the cabinet meeting on Monday.

The proposals for medium term development framework for 2005-2010 came under consideration.

The chief minister told the commission that provincial government would send its objections, reservations and recommendations concerning these proposals to the federal government for consideration. He said that the cabinet meeting also considered these proposals in detail and the cabinet members had reservations regarding contradictions about poverty alleviation, major allocations for higher education and special development programme.

Dr Mohammed Akram said that federal government’s annual development programme was set at Rs90 billion and that of Sindh government was around Rs18 billion. The federal government and planning commission would strive to meet the requirements of Sindh keeping in view the reservations of Sindh cabinet, he added.—APP
