Lightning kills 10 in India

HYDERABAD, May 1: Ten people were killed and eight injured when they were struck by lightning during heavy rains in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, police said on Sunday. The 10 victims were killed overnight on Saturday, a police spokesman said. Torrential rains with strong winds uprooted trees, damaged houses and electricity lines and destroyed standing crops in several districts including coastal Guntur, he said. The meteorological office has forecast more rain and thunder showers in the state.—-AFP
