MUNICH (Germany), April 29: German fourth seed Tommy Haas surged into the semifinals of the 323,250 euro (419,754 dollar) BMW Open with a 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/5) win over Australian veteran Wayne Arthurs here on Friday. It is the first time Haas has reached the last four since 2000 and he now hopes to become the first German to win the trophy since Michael Stich in 1994.

ESTORIL (Portugal): Dinara Safina reached her second semifinal in as many appearances at the Estoril Open on Friday, rolling over American Jill Craybas 6-4, 6-2.
The Russian second seed was stopped in a last-four appearance at the Estadio Nacional in 2002 when she lost a semi to German Anca Barna.

WARSAW: A sore shoulder hindered Kim Clijsters as she struggled to overcome hard-hitting Elena Bovina to reach the semifinals of the WTA event in Warsaw on Friday.
