RAWALPINDI, April 29: District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani has said elimination of illiteracy from the society is the responsibility of the entire nation. The nazim was talking to the participants of a walk held in connection with Education for All (EFA) week here on Friday.
He stressed upon every individual to take up the responsibility of educating at least one child.
He said the district government was giving top priority to promote education in the district, adding that no lapse, whatsoever, would be tolerated in this regard.
Mr Kiani said the Punjab government had abolished fees in schools, while free textbooks were also being provided to the students.
In such a situation, it would be a crime to prevent a child from going to school, he added.
The nazim said those who could not afford uniform and other expenses incurred on child’s education should approach the district government for financial assistance.
Later, the district nazim inaugurated the new building of district administration offices.
He said the new building had been constructed within a short period of four months. Mr Kiani lauded the services of Executive District Officer (EDO) Works and Services, and EDO Finance for ensuring speedy completion of the building.
He said redressal of public problems was the duty of government officers.
