DADU: Villagers protest against police

By Our Correspondent

DADU, April 29: A large number of residents of the Jam Zardari village staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Friday to protest against the Thrari Mohabbat police.

Speaking to the protesting villagers, Mr Amanullah Zardari and Mr Umed Ali said that a team of the Thrari Mohabbat police station had conducted raid at their houses and arrested their brothers — Ali Hyder and Ali Nawaz — on Oct 12, 2004.

They alleged that the SHO of Thrari Mohabbat police station had demanded Rs50,000 from villagers and on their refusal, the SHO had arrested another brother Photo Zardari when he had protested against police.

They said that police were torturing his brothers as a result of which Photo Zardari had lost his eyesight.

They demanded of the DPO of Dadu to constitute a committee comprising honest police officials to investigate the matter and release the detained persons.

Rain: The different parts of Dadu and Johi and Mehar talukas received heavy rains on Friday morning which affected the transport, electricity and telecommunication system.
