KARACHI: Water supply to improve with WB’s programme

KARACHI, April 29: The adviser to chief minister on local government, Wasim Akhtar, on Friday said that the system of water supply in the city would be improved with the World Bank Water and Sanitation Programme.

“The programme will not only help improve the water supply, but also help improve the technical abilities of the engineers of KWSB,” he said after meeting a two-member delegation of Water and Sanitation Programme of the World Bank.

The delegation members included David Savage from New Delhi and acting country team leader of the programme Nadir Abbas. KWSB Managing Director Brig Iftikhar Haider was also present.

He mentioned that the two-day workshop, held on Feb 23-24 by the Water Sanitation Programme of the World Bank, benefited a lot for bringing improvement in water supply and sanitation in the city.

Mr Akhtar said that the provincial government desired that more workshops and seminars be conducted to enhance the knowledge and information of engineers as well as general public. He pointed out that by holding such programmes, they succeeded in controlling the wastage of water and people were being provided tap water in sufficient quantity. —APP
