Four robbers shot dead by police, villagers

SHEIKHUPURA, April 28: Four dacoits were killed in an encounter with police and villagers late Wednesday night on Gujranwala Road. Seven armed dacoits entered the house of deceased Bashir Ahmed, the councillor who was shot dead about eight months ago in Gharibabad locality. The intruders asked the heirs of deceased Bashir not to persue the case. As they raised an alarm, their neighbours woke up and challenged the outlaws.

In the meantime other villagers also rushed to the spot. At this, the criminals became jittery and opened an indiscriminate fire on the people. The villagers also returned the fire.

On receiving information, DSP Aneesur Rehman Khan and Sadar SHO Mian Shafqat along with a heavy police contingent reached there and joined the villagers. Later, during the shootout, four dacoits were killed instantly while three others managed to escape from the scene. The deceased dacoits were identified as ring leader Imtiaz alias Kaka Awan, Iqbal alias Bala, Imtiaz Taji and Soodi Masih.

The police said that the killed dacoits were wanted in several heinous cases committed in Lahore, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Kasur and Sheikhupura districts.

Meanwhile, DPO Shahid Iqbal announced cash awards and commendation certificates for policemen and villagers who took part in the encounter.

ABDUCTED: Two women were allegedly abducted in different parts of the district on Thursday.

The victim (S), mother of four minor children, was kidnapped by an accused at Chak 10 near Baragarh, some 70kms from here.

On the complaint of her husband Ilyas, police have registered a case against accused Ijaz.

The wife of Sadiq was abducted by three outlaws in Farooq Park in the jurisdiction of Ferozewala police station.

On the complaint of Sadiq, the police have instituted a case against accused Aziz, Riaz and Boota.

HOUSE BURNT: A house of labourer Iftikhar Hussain was burnt by some unidentified miscreants on Thursday in Sharaqpur Khurd locality.

The family members were not present in the house at the time of the incident. The building and valuables were reduced to ashes. The loss was estimated to be in millions of rupees. The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained.
