Smuggling bid foiled; woman arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, April 28: Customs authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle heroin to South Africa on Thursday and arrested a woman at Islamabad airport. The customs officials said a woman, in her 30s, was spotted acting suspiciously while check-in for Dubai-bound flight (EK- 615) was underway. The woman, identified as Bonita Michelle (South African national), was taken into custody by the customs staff after she failed to answer their questions. Later, she confessed that she had swallowed 100 capsules containing heroin.

During preliminary interrogation, the woman revealed that she belonged to a middle class family and worked as a sales girl in South Africa.

She said she had been hired by drug traffickers and it was her second visit to Pakistan.

VEHICLES STOLEN: Two vehicles were stolen from different parts of Rawalpindi, police said on Thursday.

Fateh Khan told Waris Khan police that his car (IDF-4973) was stolen from outside his house while Ejaz Ahmed complained that his car (RIZ-54) was stolen from outside a restaurant in Banni area.
