Draft charter of OPF girls college okayed

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 28: Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) board of governors on Thursday approved the proposed charter of degree awarding status to OPF Girls College, F-8/2. Talking to Dawn, State Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Tariq Azim Khan said the board had set up a four member committee headed by him to oversee the future developments in this regard.

“I have been tasked to supervise the process of the case and hold discussions with the Higher Education Commission and law ministry”, the minister said.

All the board members agreed that instead of affiliation with some public sector university, the college should have independent degree awarding status and formally approved the proposed charter.

In response to a question, the minister said: “At present, I cannot give any timeframe, however, we will try our best to make it possible on emergency grounds.”

Since, it is a legislative process and involves certain rules, hence it will take some time, but the ministry would expedite the process by all means, he added.

When contacted, representatives of students’ action committee reiterated that they would not compromise on less than degree awarding status for the college.
