KARACHI, April 28: The Sindh High Court on Thursday issued notice to a local cable network company for May 6, in lawsuit claiming Rs50 million by a foreign broadcasting company seeking injunction against re-broadcasting of its subscribe channels by the defendant.

Multichoice Africa limited contended that its broadcasts were being beamed without permission and legitimate authority by the SUN TV.

SHC’s single bench, comprising Justice Mushir Alam, after preliminary hearing issued notice to defendant and sought its reply in the lawsuit.

NOTICES ISSUED: The Sindh High Court on Thursday issued notice to Deputy Attorney General, Advocate General Sindh for May 5, on a petition challenging detention of an activist of Baloch Alliance by the law-enforcement agencies.

Mir Noor Jan moved the SHC seeking whereabouts of his son Imdad Baloch, also a student of Bolan Medical College, who according to the petitioner was allegedly taken away with others by the police and law-enforcement agencies on March 26 from an apartment situated in Gulistan-i-Johar.

His counsel Abdul Hafeez Lakho said Imdad Baloch, and other activists were holding a meeting against ongoing military operation in Balochistan, especially in tribal area of Dera Bugti when the police raided the place and whisked them away. Naming the interior ministry, the Sindh home department, TPO Gulshan and SHO Gulistan-i-Johar as respondents, the counsel sought direction to respondents to ascertain whereabouts of detainees and ordered their production before the court.

SHC’s division bench, comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Maqbool Baqar, after preliminary hearing of the petition issued notice to respondents and sought their comments.—PPI
