Published April 28, 2005

KARACHI, April 27: An attempt to smuggle contraband heroin was foiled when the sleuths of Customs Preventive Collectorate recovered 22kg brown powder from the wooden furniture consigned for Kuwait through Karachi Port. The consignment of wooden furniture was intercepted at the port on suspicion. When drilled the furniture items revealed the presence of heroin.

The consignment comprised 75 wooden doors along with other fixtures, all of which were drilled. As a result, nine of the 75 doors were found having contained heroin artfully stacked inside and were seized.

The DEC has lodged an FIR against the exporter M/s World Plus International, Peshawar, and other accused under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.—APP
