ISLAMABAD, April 27: The National Tariff Commission (NTC) is considering a proposal to revise upward customs duty to 25 per cent from 20 per cent on import of chrome pigment. An official announcement on Wednesday said the NTC in this regard sought views, suggestions and proposals from the relevant stakeholders for considering the proposal and another proposal for the reduction of import duty on sodium dichromate (raw material) from 10 per cent to zero per cent.
A public hearing was scheduled for May 4, 2005 to consider the proposals.
The POPLON and Company (Pvt) Ltd, a local manufacturer of chrome pigment, has approached the NTC for revising the duty on the ground that they have the capacity to manufacture chrome pigments to meet the entire domestic demand.
The company further said that if the import duty was not revised upward then the imported produce would adversely impact the indigenous manufacturing of chrome pigments and its further growth.
