Asif rules out deal with govt

RAWALPINDI, April 26: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is not negotiating a deal with the government, said Asif Ali Zardari here on Tuesday. He was speaking to reporters at Islamabad International Airport on his first visit to the twin cities since his release from jail.

Mr Zardari said last time when he had tried to come to the federal capital, he was arrested and sent back to Karachi. “There are no negotiations taking place,” he asserted.

Refuting the common perception of a deal between the PPP and the government, Asif Ali Zardari said if it had been so hundreds of party workers would not have been arrested. “Had we been interested in a deal then what was the use of my remaining behind the bars for years,” he remarked.

Referring to PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s recent statement, the PPP leader said his statement amply reflected the mindset of the rulers. He dispelled the rumours that he had come to the capital to meet President Musharraf. “I’m not meeting any government personality during my stay.”

Regarding the future political course of action, he said all decisions would be taken in consultation with the ARD allies.
