OKARA, April 25: As many as 18 PPP activists, earlier booked under 16-MPO and detained at Chung PS have been shifted to Faisalabad jail on Monday. PPP MPA and district president Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna said at a hurriedly-called press conference that police had now booked them under anti-terrorism laws so that they could not be granted bails.

Mr Sohna said that Deepalpur-based party activists were arrested by Chung police when they were on way to Lahore to welcome Asif Ali Zardari. He alleged that the police added anti-terrorist act sections in the FIR lodged against the activists.

The activists including Deepalpur tehsil General-Secretary Sarfraz Mahar, Sanaullah, Ghulam Mustafa, Intizar Hussain, Muhammad Ashraf, Mukhtar Ahmad, Khadim Hussain, Zaheer Abbas, Saqlain Safdar and Muhammad Sarfraz, along with eight others, had been sent to Faisalabad jail, he added. — Correspondent
