Duststorm hits north Sindh

JACOBABAD, April 24: Eighteen electricity poles and three pylons of heavy transmission lines of 132kv fell near Kandhkot on Saturday night, plunging most parts of the district into darkness. Electricity poles and towers fell after a heavy duststorm hit the district. Hesco official Noor Ahmed Dayo said the transmission lines were outdated and storm demolished the poles.

He rejected the possibility of any sabotage act. He said work for restoration of electricity was in progress.

KHAIRPUR: A dust storm paralysed life in the city and its surrounding areas on Saturday. Bazaars and markets were closed after it lashed the city. Electricity wires fell in the Gharibabad area.

Power supply to Gharibabad, Osta Gahi and other areas of the city remained suspended till the filing of this report.

Wheat crop in Nara, Faiz Ganj and Thari Mirwah talukas was affected due to the storm.
