PESHAWAR, April 23: Three thousand women would be provided training in sewing, embroidery, cutting, knitting, fabrics, painting, designing and candle-making in Malakand, Swat, Buner and Shangla districts. The training programme initially will commence in eight centres of the four districts for which arrangements have been finalized under the NWFP Social Welfare and Women Development Department. The trainees will be paid an allowance of Rs100 per day during the training, an official handout issued here on Saturday said.

On April 15, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Social Welfare and Women Development, NWFP, and the Malakand Rural Development Project (MRDP) was signed in the presence of senior minister and chief secretary of the province.

The MoU was aimed at accelerating the pace of women development in the province by providing them training in various disciplines.

Under the agreement, MRDP will also pay Rs500 admission fee and Rs20,000 per month for accommodation of trainees for a single batch. The number of training centres will be increased with the passage of time, the handout said.
