HYDERABAD, April 23: Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan senior vice-president MNA Dr Sahibzada Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair and MPA Abdur Rehman Rajput have accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of attacking a Milad-i-Mustafa meeting at the Koh-i-Noor Chowk here on Friday.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Saturday, they demanded registration of an FIR against the accused.

Mohammad Hussain Qureshi, Ibrahim Shaikh, Qari Niaz and other Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leaders were also present on the occasion.

Dr Zubair said while MPA Rajput was speaking at the Milad-i-Mustafa meeting, alleged miscreants of the MQM started hurling stones, abuses and threats. He said some policemen tried to stop the miscreants but the ‘black sheep’ among the police force encouraged them.

He said the accused also cut loudspeaker wires which were later restored. He alleged that the miscreants had sometime back removed the Mustafa Chowk plaque from the roundabout to provoke people.

He criticized the alleged partisan attitude of the district administration. He regretted that instead of registering an FIR against the miscreants, police registered a case against MPA Rajput under anti-terrorism laws.

The MNA said such a situation could not be tolerated and added that the local administration was trying to create serious law and order situation in the city.

MPA Rajput alleged that the DCO and the DPO were playing in the hands of the MQM and while they had taken no action against the miscreants, they had registered a false case against him. He claimed that the new DPO had been posted with a view to influencing the next elections.

The MMA leaders demanded registration of an FIR against the MQM for creating disturbances and attacking the Milad-i-Mustafa meeting.

FOOD EMPLOYEES: A group of food department employees observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Thursday to protest against non-regularization of 490 watchmen.
