Pakistan placed second

Published April 22, 2005

KARACHI, April 21: Pakistan have been second seeded for the hockey tournament of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, next March. Pakistan are placed at second spot behind hosts Australia, the reigning Olympic champions. India, the Asia Cup champions, are third in the 10-nation men’s hockey tournament.

Second seeding means that Pakistan will not be in a pool along with title favourites Australia. New Zealand are seeded fourth in the competition. The pools of the tournament are likely to be announced within the next few weeks.—PPI
