Ties with India improving: Soomro

By Our Correspondent

JACOBABAD, April 21: Acting President and Senate chairman, Muhammadmian Soomro, told reporters here on Thursday that President General Pervez Musharraf’s visit to India would yield fruitful results in economic and political terms and it would open up new vistas of relations between the two countries.

He said that Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s response in this context was positive and he would visit Pakistan to boost ties. He said that Kashmir and other issues could be resolved amicably through diplomacy. He termed the opening of more points for travel across the border as confidence building measures.

He said Maulana Samiul Haq by the European Union was an isolated issue. He said Pakistan’s image in global perspective has improved due to correct foreign policy.

He said potable water scheme would soon be taken up to check gastroenteritis in Jacobabad city.

Answering a question about PPP arrest of PPP workers, he said it was Sindh government’s decision and the centre was not involved in it.

PROTEST: Students of the technical college, Jacobabad, took out a procession here on Wednesday to protest against the district zakat and ushr committee chairman for depriving them of the MORA scholarship.

The procession started from the college to reach the committee chairman’s office, where the protesters staged a sit-in, raising slogans for acceptance of their demand.
