Woman commits suicide

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, April 21: Financial difficulties drove a woman to commit suicide in the Civil Lines police area on Thursday. According to police, Tahir Mehmood, a salesman, received a telephone call from his cousin, asking him to reach his house in Dhoke Chiraghdeen as soon as possible. When he arrived at his house, he found his wife, Shahnaz Bibi, hanging. Quoting Tahir Mehmood as saying, the police said he had been facing financial difficulties and could not afford to send his two disabled children to school.

Investigating Officer ASI Azhar Hussain told Dawn that poverty was the reason behind the suicide. “They had no resources for the education of their two disabled children which led to domestic unrest and ended in the woman committing suicide,” Mr Hussain said.

Shahnaz Bibi left behind a 10-year-old girl, who is deaf by birth, a seven-year-old disabled son and another minor son.
