Bureau Report
HYDERABAD, April 21: Chief of Awami Tehrik Rasool Bux Palijo has urged oppressed nations to struggle jointly for the liberation of people, and said that the time is ripe and the people ready for waging such a struggle. Speaking as chief guest on the 28th anniversary of the Sindhi Shagird Tehrik at the press club here on Wednesday night, he paid tribute to the student wing of his party for struggling against oppression for many years despite heavy odds.
Mr Palijo alleged that due to conspiracies of the rulers, educational institutions of Sindh and Punjab had been handed over to fascist elements, as a result of which, the entire education system had been destroyed. Criticizing political violence in educational institutions, he stressed the need for a peaceful democratic struggle.
He said that the universal system could only be understood through education and scientific knowledge, and added that students must concentrate on seeking knowledge which was the most powerful weapon.
Students had always played a leading role in revolutions and, as such, they should prepare themselves for future struggles, he stressed.
The communist movement in Pakistan, he said, had always looked towards instead of mustering support of the people, which was against the very spirit of the movement.
Confrontation between capitalism and socialism was a global phenomenon, he said, claiming that the socialist movement would triumph in the end.
SST central secretary-general Javed Rajpar; Sindhiani Tehrik (Sindhi Women Movement) president Nazeer Qureshi; and Awami Tehrik leaders, Qadir Ranto, Dr Nazeer Shaikh, Hakeem Halepoto and others also spoke.
