KARACHI: DCOs asked to forward uplift plans by 30th


KARACHI, April 20: The Sindh government has asked all the DCOs to forward the new development schemes for their respective districts to the provincial planning and development department for the year 2005-6, latest by April 30. This was told to the DCO during a meeting held at the Sindh Secretariat with Sindh Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani in the chair here on Wednesday morning.

Elaborating the principles of the development work in accordance with the annual development plan and provincial finance commission, it was decided that the district schemes under ADP would be uplifted in accordance with their district portfolio. The action plans for the town linked to the devolved social services had also been sought by the planning and development department, provided that the respective plans were deemed fit for the funds from the federal government.

Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Ghulam Sarwar Khero advised the DCOs that the new schemes of drainage, water supply and road sector uplift be submitted under the due clearance of the PDWP.

The chief secretary, addressing the meeting, emphasized upon all DCOs to pay their utmost attention on ensuring development work, improving educational standard and providing healthy potable water in their respective districts.

He said that for the sake of provincial and national development and for a bright future of the young generation, the DCOs should visit schools and colleges to discuss the results of exams with specific reference to three main subjects — English, Mathematics and Computer Science.

He suggested that in the first instance the results of three top classes of secondary level (Class VIII, IX and X) be analyzed in consultation with the respective heads if institutions leading to gear up the result qualitatively and quantitatively.

Aslam Sanjrani advised the DCOs to monitor schools and colleges with a view to streamlining education standard.

He categorically instructed them to expedite the provision of land in each district for setting up digital libraries under the auspices of the Higher Education Commission.

It was also disclosed in the meeting that 24 water purification plants were being set up in all districts as per programme of the federal government.

The preliminary work, thereof, was in progress in the provincial planning and development department. — PPI
