Taimur slams match winner: Polo

LAHORE, April 17: Guard Rice lifted the Ufone Polo Cup defeating Master Paints 8- 5 ½ in the final at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Sunday. GR enjoyed supremacy in the match in which MP started the match with a handicap of 1 ½..

GR took unbeatable 2-0 lead in the opening chukker in which Dr Iftikhar Ali and Taimur Ali shared a field goal each.

MP struck when Ahmad Ali scored in the beginning of the second chukker in a field move and GR crushed them by adding two more goals in the remaining part of the chukker. Dhruvpal Godra scored off a 40 yards penalty hit and Taimur collected his second field goal.

GR, a constant threat to their opponents with their disciplined game and aggressive approach, continued their goal hunt in the third chukker in which Agha Murtaza Ali was the focus of attention with his two successive field goals with Godara adding a lovely field goal. Sufi Muhammad Haris scored MP second goal in the dying stages of their chukker in a field attack.

MP made desperate attempts to recover and slammed two goals in the fourth chukker, receiving one goal apiece from Ahmad Nawaz and Ahmad Ali as GR’s Taimur scored team the match-winner after a solo effort.

In another match for deciding second place RC Cola, powered by a hat trick by Asif Tiwana, managed 6-6 draw against Diamond Paints and got the runners up place. DP were supported by hat trick maker Maula Bakhsh.

Asif Tiwana (3), Captain Shaukat (2) and Feroze Gulzar (1) were the scorers. Maula Baksh (3), Dr Kamran Zaidi, Mir Shoaib Ahmad and Yaqub Sial with one goal each scored from RC Cola.—APP
