Peshawar varsity lift soccer crown

ISLAMABAD, April 17: Peshawar University captured the football title on Sunday, the penultimate day of the second University Games, with an extra-time victory over Punjab University. After both sides were tied 1-1 in scheduled period, Peshawar scored four goals in a dramatic 30 minutes of extra time to score well-deserved 5-1 win.
Peshawar owed it to the heroics of Shabbir and Saad, both of whom scored two goals each to seal victory while Punjab pulled a goal back through Subhan.
In cricket, Punjab University and Government College University Faisalabad advanced to Monday’s final of the championship.
Punjab defeated Government College University Lahore by six wickets in the first semifinal.
Batting first, Government College scored 160 in 38.3 overs, a total that was overhauled by Punjab in 28 overs for the loss of four wickets.
In the second semifinal, Government College University Faisalabad collected a 66-run victory over NED University.
Faisalabad hit up 245 for seven in 40 overs and then dismissed their opponents for 179 in 36 overs.
