QUETTA, April 16: The Governor of Balochistan, Owais Ahmed Ghani, has said the Higher Education Commission will provide Rs3 billion for universities in the province during the next three years. The governor was speaking at the fifth convocation of Balochistan University held here on Saturday. The government being fully aware of the importance of education was doing its best to develop this sector, Mr Ghani said.
“Six universities have been established in the province due to our efforts,” he said.
The governor said foundations of development had been laid down in the province, and development activities that would make Balochistan a new economic frontier of the country were in progress.
Mr Ghani said the people of Balochistan had a lot of potential, and they only needed the leadership that could translate their abilities into developing the province.
The governor said education was a force that can develop every field of human endeavour.
Any deviation from the pursuit of education on the campus would hurt students, pushing the province further behind other provinces in the field of education, a sector which could hardly afford any setback.
In this context, Mr Ghani said he would not allow any kind of political activity in educational institutions, especially in the universities.
He said educational institutions were only for promotion of education.
The governor said that political activities on campuses wasted students’ time and disturbed the atmosphere.
Mr Ghani said he had discussed this issue with every politician in the province, and they agreed with him on this point.
“It is the responsibility of political leaders to restrict students from taking part in negative activities in the university,” Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani said.
The governor congratulated the graduating students and said the time had come for them to play their role in developing their province.
He said a bright future lied ahead for those who had excelled in their studies. He hoped they would keep the good work up in their professional lives as well.
The governor said that some parts of the province had been passing through change and were moving towards becoming a modern and progressive
society.
