PESHAWAR,April 17: Flood protection dams would be built in the South Waziristan agency to save agricultural land from erosion, announced the Corps Commander Lt Gen Safdar Hussain here on Sunday. The Corps commander Peshawar during a meeting with a 30-member representative jirga of Mehsud tribe (Kekrai clan) also said that no one would be allowed to disrupt the peace and the developmental works initiated by the Pakistan army in Waziristan agency.

Mehsud tribe representatives and the political administration officials held a meeting with the corps commander here at Corps Headquarters and discussed various uplift schemes initiated in the area, said an Inter-Services Public Relations press release issued here on Sunday.

The Pakistan army in its uplift strategy has given priority to infrastructure development, construction of schools, basic health units and provision of other basic amenities of life. Two telephone exchanges will be established, the corps commander informed the jirga.

He said that the General Headquarters (GHQ) has sanctioned two additional engineers battalions to undertake development works on fast track basis.
