Railway police kills ‘thief’

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, April 17: An alleged thief was killed and his son injured in an “encounter” with police near the railway station on Sunday. Railway police said a squad on patrol spotted four men busy removing brake blocks of a passenger train stationed at Do Moria Yard. The squad personnel ordered the men to surrender, who, instead, opened fire on them, they added.

The police claimed that they returned the fire which injured two suspects, who disappeared in a nearby locality, while the remaining two managed their escape.

The police launched a search and found that one suspect had died in hospital, while the other was under treatment in critical condition. The police shifted the injured man to the Mayo Hospital.

The deceased man was identified as Pervaiz alias Paija, and the injured man his son, Lal Husain. The two men, who managed their escape, were identified by their injured accomplice as Kashif and Abdul Shakoor.

The police claimed the suspects had been involved in theft of railway goods for some years, and had 14 theft cases registered against them.

The body has been sent to the city mortuary for autopsy and a case was registered.
