PM asks PIA to improve service

ISLAMABAD, April 16: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday asked the senior management of the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC) to redouble its efforts for achieving higher standards of service while maintaining profitability of the corporation.

He was attending a presentation on the PIA at the prime minister’s house on Saturday. He said that being the national flag carrier, the PIA had a responsibility to ensure that passengers travelled in safety and comfort.

“The government is alive to the difficult situation PIA is facing due to the unprecedented increase in oil prices and their adverse impact on airline business”, he observed.

The PM expressed hope that with prudent measures and greater professionalism the PIA would be able to come out of the present situation.

He complimented the efforts of PIA for survival in a highly competitive international environment.

Emphasizing the need of adopting a professional approach to deal with growing challenges, the prime minister said the government was a believer in free market economy “but at the same time it is our responsibility to improve the product”.

He also urged PIA to strive for introducing the country’s rich cultural heritage to the world.—APP
